Royal jelly, also called royal jelly and bee jelly, is a mixture secreted by the head vegetative glands and upper jaw (collectively called the royal jelly glands) of young worker bees (3-15 days old). It appears as a milky white or light yellow pulpy substance with a sour, astringent, spicy, and slightly sweet taste. Rich in nutrients and some unexplained substances, royal jelly contains 10-hydroxy-decanoic acid exclusively, which is why it's also called royal jelly acid.
Named because it serves as the lifelong food of the queen bee, royal jelly contributes to the significant lifespan difference between queen bees (3-5 years) and worker bees (approximately 60 days). This remarkable difference is attributed to royal jelly's rich composition of protein, amino acids, vitamins, lipids, sunflower acetic acid, trace elements, folic acid, acetylcholine, nucleic acid, and other vital substances.

Good quality royal jelly must meet four essential requirements:
  • Color: Must be light yellow to yellow. Fresher royal jelly exhibits lighter yellow coloration. Extended transfer without freezing may cause slight color changes.
  • Taste: Should be predominantly spicy with a strong plain taste, followed by slight sweetness. If the taste lacks strength but is overly sweet or plain, the quality may be compromised or the product may not be 100% pure royal jelly.
  • 10-HDA Content: Must be at least 1.4%. Content below this level indicates poor quality. Royal jelly with 1.8% and 2.0% 10-HDA represents very good quality. We offer various types including 1.4%, 1.6%, and other concentrations.
