The fact that smoke calms bees has been known since ancient times; however, the scientific explanation was unknown until the 20th century and is still not fully understood. Smoke masks alarm pheromones which include various chemicals, e.g.,isopentyl acetate that are released by guard bees or bees that are injured during a beekeeper's inspection. The smoke creates an opportunity for the beekeeper to open the beehive and work while the colony's defensive response is interrupted. In addition, smoke initiates a feeding response in anticipation of possible hive abandonment due to fire.
Smoke is of limited use with a swarm, partly because swarms have no honey stores to feed on. It is usually not needed, either, since swarms tend to be less defensive as they have no home to defend, and a fresh swarm will have fed well at the hive it left behind.

Bee Star was established from a beekeeper’s family since 1950. Beekeeper Shen was very well known because he was very professional in beekeeping, his bee colonies were always stronger than others' and could crop more bee products. 40 years ago, Shen started to develop his business with his big families and relatives, they increased lots of their honey bee colonies and then built their own small honey plant and beeswax factory. Some others started to produce beehives, bee smokers, beekeeping clothes and so on. Until now, the whole families and relatives already have more than 1000 beekeeping apiaries, and one honey and royal jelly plant, one beeswax factory, and one beekeeping equipment factory. They support each other and help each other to develop together. After satisfied the Chinese inland beekeeping market very well, with the continuous expansion of scale, they established the International Trade Department 10 years ago and started the export journey. Bee star is mainly responsible for exporting the products from the family group factories.
